How long does a car battery last?

Usually 3 to 5 years. Short trips, hot weather, and cars that sit unused for long periods all wear them out faster.

I had a jump-start and it's fine now. Do I still need to get it checked?

We'd recommend it. A jump-start gets you going, but it doesn't tell you why it went flat. It could be the battery, the alternator, or something draining power while the car is parked.

My car has stop-start. Does it need a special battery?

Yes. Stop-start cars need an AGM or EFB battery. A standard battery will work at first, but it won't last as long and can cause problems with the car's electrics.

What we do

Test the battery. We check how well it's holding charge.
Test the charging system. A weak alternator or something draining power overnight can flatten a good battery. We check, so you don't replace a battery you didn't need to.
Fit the right battery. Correct size, power and type for your car. Cars with stop-start need a special battery (AGM or EFB), and a standard one won't last.
Register it if needed. Some newer cars need to be told a new battery has been fitted, so they charge it correctly. We do that too.
